How Company of Dads Is Redefining the Meaning of Fatherhood
The Company of Dads is a free in-person and online resource that supplies dads across the country with corporate workshops, podcasts and more to inspire them to push past outdated ideas of masculinity. TODAY’s Craig Melvin sits down with the founder Paul Sullivan, a former New York Times columnist, to talk about what motivated him to create this platform for dads.
The role of Lead Dad has been priority No. 1 for Paul – second only to his mission of encouraging other dads to come together, step forward, and embrace their desire to do the same.
After the pandemic, with his wife’s support, Paul stepped away from his column at The New York Times to launch The Company of Dads. Three years later, he’s carrying that mission to the national stage in a conversation with Craig Melvin on The Today Show.
They discuss the shift in fatherhood and how more men are pushing past traditional expectations to become the fathers their children – and spouses – need them to be. While the role is becoming more common, many fathers still want to be Lead Dads but lack the support at home or within their social circles to make it a reality.
But support at home and in society isn’t enough to drive lasting change. Careers and corporate policies for working parents often make it difficult for fathers to be truly present. That’s why Paul partners with companies to help develop policies that promote equal care, paid leave, and healthy parenting – for all parents.
The mission of The Company of Dads continues: to educate, support, and shine a spotlight on the role of Lead Dads, and to encourage fathers to be the best version of themselves – for their families.
