Let’s welcome Mario Boucher as our Lead Dad of the Week. Mario, a corporate writer and marketer, is a divorced father of a teenage son.
Originally from Northern Ontario, Canada, he spent most of his career – and time as a father – in Los Angeles, before moving to Raleigh, N.C., during the pandemic. He moved so his son could be closer to his mother, who had remarried, and not have to travel across the country to see her.
“It wasn’t that hard to move – I live for the kid,” he said of his son who is 16. “My personal thing never factored into this. It was a leap of faith.”
Mario, 57, said he’s most proud when other parents say what a good kid his son is. “To me you just do what you have to do,” he said. “Right now, I’m working 60 hours a week to make sure everything is covered. I’m a Dad. His mom’s not involved, so I just have to do it.”
His son has adapted to the east coast and made new friends. “He’s a good kid,” Mario said. “He’s got good instincts.”
